Onward Movie Review

★★★★ (4/7)

“Onward” is the latest film released from Pixar Studios. The film follows brothers Ian and Barley and the quest to bring back their deceased father for one day.

While this film was not hard to watch or a bad experience, it seems to be Pixar underachieving. There is nothing ambitious about “Onward.” It plays on overused themes and feels like a film you have seen many times before. The brothers quest to see their father, while touching, does not seem to bring anything new or creative to Pixar’s arsenal of great films.

Ian and Barley’s quest is extremely fast paced and seems cluttered. There are some forced jokes and characters that are not necessary in the film. The brief history of the world is brushed over and does not add much to the story.

Despite the complaints, “Onward” does some things right. The animation is beautiful with awesome colors and scenes. The brothers are well developed and easy to cheer for. Finally, there are touching moments shared and Pixar gives a great example of brotherly love. This story, although not perfect, will resonate with most and is touching at times.

In conclusion, “Onward” is not extremely ambitious or new, but it is enjoyable. Is it Pixar at their best? Of course not. However, “Onward” will provide you with a fun watch with moments that are touching.
